Coming Soon: Toast to the Eagle
On Saturday, July 14, 2018, the State House Bicentennial Commission will host the 200th Anniversary of the Toast to the Eagle at the New Hampshire State House. The ceremony will consist of the 13 toasts that were offered at the original setting of the Eagle on July 18, 1818. We have partnered with Henniker Brewing Company in the production of a special ale appropriate for toasting. Entry for the beer garden begins at 2:30, with the celebration beginning at 3 p.m. Soda and water will be available for those not wishing to participate. Price is $5 for a cup of beer, $10 for the commemorative cup. We hope to you see you there!!
State House Bicentennial Poster Contest
After a very successful Bicentennial Poster contest, and having been displayed at the State House for some time, many posters are on display at the State Library. We encourage everyone to stop by and see the amazing work by some of New Hampshire's brightest students!
On Wednesday May 16, 2018 students from across New Hampshire came together in Concord to receive award certificates for essays they submitted regarding the State House Bicentennial. The essays were once again judged by members of all three branches of government and the certificates were signed by Governor Sununu, Chief Justice Lynn, Senate President Morse and House Speaker Chandler. These officials were joined by the Executive Council and members of the State House Bicentennial Commission for the presentation. The 2017 and 2018 contests having ended, the 2019 contest, which will feature mixed media, will begin this fall.
The State House Bicentennial Coin was created to help celebrate the 200th year of New Hampshire's State House. The coin is on sale for $20 in the State House Visitors' Center and will also soon be on sale at the I-93 Service Areas in Hooksett! The proceeds from the sale of the coins goes to help planning the bicentennial events for 2019. Own a numbered piece of our State House history by purchasing one of these coins!
